About Me

Max Lytovka

I am a data scientist focused on modeling and forecasting problems that support high-impact decision making. I am motivated by turning uncertainty into actionable insight, where analysis directly influences real-world outcomes.

My background spans applied machine learning, time series forecasting, and data engineering. I have built production forecasting systems for energy markets, analytical pipelines for quantitative trading, and conducted research in multimodal deep learning. My work emphasizes robustness, interpretability, and deployment at scale.

I follow a “business before ML” approach: define the decision problem first, build strong data foundations, and use the simplest effective models before adding complexity. I am particularly interested in forecasting, optimization, and decision-making under uncertainty.

My long-term goal is to work as a quantitative researcher or machine learning engineer on technically deep problems with clear economic impact.

Recognition Beyond Formal Criteria

After leaving Ukraine in 2022, I applied to Dutch universities and was initially rejected by Maastricht University due to formal entry requirements (11 vs. 12 years of schooling).

After passing the OMPT-D mathematics exam with a 95% score and sharing the result, an admissions officer later reached out, acknowledging the result and noting that my mathematical background made me a strong fit despite the original rejection.

A Swift Transition

In 2022, as the war in Ukraine began, I moved from Ukraine to Paris with my mother and sister. My father stayed behind due to restrictions, so I took on responsibility for them.

While finishing school in Paris and applying to Dutch universities, I was offered reduced tuition if I obtained temporary protection status in the Netherlands. My status was still in France.

Within three days, I said goodbye to teachers and friends, traveled with my family to the Netherlands, and stayed in a shelter while awaiting documents. Once finalized, I returned to Paris to finish school, arriving just in time for graduation.
